Melvin Bernard Alston, Vice President of the Frederick E. Samuel Community Democratic Club, is a compassionate and committed community builder with over three decades of leadership experience as a civil servant, political activist and community organizer. A native New Yorker, he is dedicated to creating empowerment opportunities for children and families. After 37 yrs. Melvin recently retired from New York City’s Administration for Children Services, where he served in various leadership capacities. He devoted his community expertise to ACS’ Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships. In his position he worked as the Community and Fatherhood Outreach Coordinator for over 5 years. This is also where he built and developed great relations with government and community agencies alike. He has been a leading advocate for the growth of mentoring as a strategy for youth development as well as fatherhood engagement. |
